Beschreibung:
Our group is interested in identifying the cellular and molecular mechanisms leading to arterial-venous malformations (AVMs), a pathological characteristic of Human Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) vascular disorder. HHT is caused by heterozygous mutations in genes part of the Bone Morphogenic Protein (BMP) 9 and BMP10 signaling pathway.
Using murine and cellular models of HHT we have now identified that AVMs form due to permanent remodeling resulting from loss of blood flow mediated maintenance of EC quiescence. We further found that the triggering cell event for AVMs is the increased EC proliferation mediating loss of arterial identity.
The offered project will focus on validating our molecular targets in human samples obtained in collaboration with Dr.Caroline Seebauer from Universitätsklinikum Regensburg. This will be achieved by using immunohistochemical staining (as in anatomo-pathology department) with antibodies for the designated proteins. In addition the Md Thesis candidate will use Elisa, Western Blot and RT-PCR techniques that are a routine in my laboratory. Lab experience is welcome but you will be taught all techniques in our lab.
We also support the application for MD Fellowships (1034€/month) by intra- or extramural stipends (Promotionsstipendium der medizinischen Fakultät Manheim, CRC MD stipend, etc.).
We are a young and dynamic multidisciplinary group including physicians, pharmacists, biologists and chemists. The Cardiovascular Pharmacology is part of the European Center for Angioscience (ECAS) and very well connected with other institutes.
In summary:
What we want:
- Motivated MD students with strong interest in science
- Willingness to learn and establish new techniques
- Willingness to work for 3-6 Months in full time
What we offer:
- Full integration into a young and dynamic team
- Training in state of the art molecular and cell biology techniques
- Close mentoring and supervision
- Support for application for stipends and scholarships
- Defined and straight forward project
