The inflammatory response after myocardial infarction (MI) greatly impacts subsequent healing and remodeling of the heart. Monocytes and macrophages are centrally involved in these processes. Using state-of-the-art methods such as single cell and spatial transcriptomics, we have generated a granular and time-resolved resource in a minimal-invasive mouse model of MI. We now want to integrate these existing data with human datasets and validate crucial leukocyte subsets and pathways in this process. The goal is to identify novel check-points and tissue-hubs that promote optimal healing post MI and might enable novel approaches for the prevention of heart failure.
